THE SCOTTISH Motor Trade Association has voiced concern at the Government's plans to hive off the heavy goods vehicle testing stations.
SMTA heavy commercial vehicle committee chairman Andy Milne, said that it is high on the Government's priority list to place plating and testing of heavy goods vehicles into the private sector.
"it is the unanimous feeling of our members that should the Government decide to close down its own testing stations, then authority to operate an HGV testing service should be available to all heavy commercial vehicle dealers.
'It is important that commercial vehicle users suffer the minimum of mconvenience in the testing of their vehicles and we feel it is only by allowing existing workshops to take on the work that the maximum benefit will be realised from the changeover, should it take place.''
