A ROAD transport agreement with Poland came into effect yesterday. It allows an operator licensed in the United Kingdom to carry goods for hire and reward to enter Poland with a laden or empty goods vehicle to carry goods.
The transit can be between the UK and Poland; passing through Poland; or between Poland and a third country.
In the last condition, the transit must be allowed by the laws of the third country and under the terms of an agreement with that country and the UK. The third country referred to is a country other than the UK.
UK operators will not require any permit or licence to enter Poland, but permits will be required for intervening countries such as West or East Germany. Exemption from Polish vehicle and transport taxes is also included.
The same provisions apply reciprocally to Polish operators here.
