THE Scottish Bus Group, who were claiming nearly £500,000 to offset losses incurred on unremunerative mates in Tayside, have now agreed that only half that sum will be sufficient.
The terms of the agreement between Tayside Regional Council transport department and the Scottish Bus Group were announced last week at a meeting of the region's roads and transport committee.
Only last month, the bus group said they would need £492,000, though they indi cated the figure could be adjusted in the light of actual results.
It was because of this disparity between the group's estimates and the regional budget that a meeting between the two bodies was convened as a matter of urgency.
In a report to the roads and transport committee, Mr A. R. Westwell, director of public transport, said that in view of savings achieved by these talks and a smaller rise in costs than anticipated, the group considered £250,000 would be sufficient to offset losses.
