KELLOGGS, have recently linked a third British Road Services warehouse to their centralised stock control and distribution system in Manchester.
Western BRS' branch at Avonmouth follows North Western BRS' Stretford and Central Park as the third branch to be linked with Kellogg? computer.
The system, known as SOBA (Stock, Orders, Billings, Analyses) helps Kelloggs and BRS to maintain detailed and current management statistics, which in turn enables both companies to provide a first class distribution system.
In the first instance orders are fed into Kellogg? Bristol sales office, and then passed via visual display units to the computer in Manchester. Within seconds the order will be accepted and allocated a specific delivery route.
This information is available to Avonmouth throughout the working day and is constantly updated. On application the BRS VDU will produce a print-out of new and outstanding orders which will then be allocated to a delivery run.
The computer knows the capacity of each vehicle type and is thus able to break orders and adjust the delivery record accordingly.
