• A Fraserburgh haulage contractor. Mr R. Sutherland, who started in business early in February this year, had his licence curtailed at a traffic court in Aberdeen last week.
Mr Sutherland, who admitted that he had convictions for not keeping adequate records and for having a defective tyre on one of his three vehicles, was told by the Scottish Licensing Authority, Mr A. B. Birnie, that his licence would be reduced to two vehicles and that it would be curtailed to one from June 10 to August 10.
Asked if he had anything to say, Mr Sutherland answered: "The business I am on is fishing business and these two months are about the busiest of the year. This will probably just about finish me."
Also before the court was Mr Allan A. B. Cooper, of Keith, Aberdeenshire, who was called to show why his licence to operate eight vehicles should not be revoked, suspended or curtailed. The court heard that Mr Cooper had had a conviction for overloading one of his lorries by 1 ton 4cwt.
It was said that one of his vehicles emitted too much smoke, had an oil leak and lacked adequate brakes.
Mr Birnie decided to take no action but he warned Mr Cooper that if there were further offences he would take these into account.
