AN addition to the range of Lightning time-savers is a double-action tool for replacing and removing circlips. In a second it can be converted to give either an opening or a closing action.
In both cases the handles of the pliers arc gripped, as the reversal of
motion of the jaws is the feature of the tool. The eirclip is handled at a right angle, so that the operative can maintain visual control under awkward conditions. Lightning equipment is made by The Elms Garage, Rednal Road, West Heath, Birmingham, 31.
Armstrong Whitworth and Co. (Pneumatic Tools), Ltd., 40 Broadway, London, S.W.1, recently introduced an electric impact wrench with a 4-in.square drive. Its standard capacity is for l-in, bolts, but it will deal with 4-in. bolts on intermittent service. .
The speed is 1,900 r.p.m., a blow being imparted every revolution. It has many applications and with suitable equipment can be used for sanding, rotary filing, drilling, and so on. It weighs 7 lb. without cable and sells for £37 10s.
A tool-bit holder designed for use with Eclipse tool hits has been introduced by James Neill and Co. (Sheffield), Ltd., Napier Street, Sheffield, 11. An essential of such a holder is that the tool bit is accurately maintained in the position in which it is set. This is achieved in the Eclipse holder, first by careful machining and secondlY by the special tool clamp. This not only ensures " square " downward pressure, but, at the same time, exerts a side thrust which locates the bit between the angle of the groove in the holder and the angle of the clamp.
Three patterns of the holder are available—left-hand, right-hand and straight. Capacities range from 3/16 in.
to in. and from 5/16 in. to 4in.
A hand-operated grease gun claimed to have a discharge pressure of 5,000 p.s.i. is being marketed by Sir Thomas Edelson and Partners, Ltd., 28-30 Sussex Place, London, W.2. A feature of the gun is that any trapped air in the cylinder can be released by a bleeder valve. The Wanner, as the . grease gun is called, is,of Swiss manufacture and sells for £4 8s.
Chamberlain Industrial, Ltd., Staffa Works, Leyton, London, E.10, have recently made available a useful bodyrepair kit, the major units in which are a single-stage pump and a 6-in.stroke 5-ton ram. These are supplied with a 7-ft. flexible high-pressure hose and a range of accessories suitable for pushing out body dents, squaring body'work, window frames and so on.
