St Albans-based Kane Haulage has been associated with PM Onboard for 14 years, and helped it develop and improve elements of the current system. such as the mountings used with Harsh underfloor gear. It now standardises on a Thompson, Harsh, PM and Transcover package in a mixed Foden, Scania and Volvo fleet.
MD Andy Kane sees the on-board weigher as a management aid that ensures compliance with legislation, and speeds up loading in quarries too. "When the driver goes to the weighbridge, 'it's only a check. And if he's pulled by the ministry," he adds, "he knows just what weight is on-board."
As an earthworks contractor, the firm also uses the system to monitor the operation of its drivers, to make sure they're loading to full capacity all the time.
"They're certainly worthwhile," says Kane. "I've been sold on them for many years now"
