PIRELLI has bought a Leyland Marathon four-wheel rigid with a 548cm (216 inch) wheelbase to test tyres on motorways and A-class roads.
The truck will be loaded to the maximum 16 tons gvw on a 7.S metre (24ft) triple dropside timber body custom-built by Mackworth Bodyworks.
This Marathon has a Leyland TL12 six-cylinder engine coupled to a Fuller nine-speed gearbox with a heavy-duty hub-reduction axle with a 4.82:1 ratio.
