pilferage of goods in store and transit is given in an attractively produced booklet entitled "Pilferage," published by the Co-ordinating Committee on Theft and Pilferage. This organization was set up by a conference convened last year by the London Chamber of Commerce.
Various authorities have been consulted in the compilation of the booklet, including the Road Haulage Executive, the Railway Executive and National Road Transport Federation.
The information is based on the accumulated experience of all those connected with the handling of goods. To defeat the pilferer, it is stated, the goods must be well packed, must be kept moving, and no details of the contents should be given on the packing.
Sections of the booklet deal respectively with suggestions that can be followed by the manufacturer or supplier and with points of special significance with regard to export goods. For the carrier the important points made are that the goods must be kept on the move, and that consignment documents must be speedily and correctly completed and dispatched.
