• The new Skills for Logistics (SfL) body, which takes over from the Road Haulage and Distribution Training Council, last week appointed its chairman and board.
Its chairman is Andrew Callaghan, non-executive chairman of Road and Sea Express, and formerly of Suttons of St Helens and Christian Salvesen, who says Sts key aim is to solve the driver shortage.
Under StL, companies can obtain funding for training drivers of any age--not just young drivers, As the body develops, it also aims to provide training for warehouse and traffic office staff, and managers. Literacy and numeracy training will also be introduced, and Callaghan says SfL will be encouraging further education colleges to develop courses.
