UNDER a £10 million wage deal between London Transport and the Transport and General Workers Union, LT bus conductors wages will top £100 a week.
The payments which are for both drivers and conductors will give busmen a 10 per cent increase on their basic wage, plus another 10 per cent on top of various allowances which make up their average earnings.
The deal, which union leaders claim comes within the Government's pay limits is still subject to the scrutiny of Employment Secretary Albert Booth.
The higher wages are corning at a time of change in LT. With more direct and concentrated management already announced together with the proposed short-term bus service improvement schemes it is hoped that this change will be reflected in a general sharpening up of the image of LT bus conductors in particular.
