Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IN Poor collection and delivery notes are causing huge inefficiencies in the road transport industry, Overdrive, the temporary drivers' agency, says.

Of 500 Overdrive drivers questioned in a specially commissioned study, 44% said they could have saved an hour a day if the standard of collection and delivery information they received was improved.

Fewer than 5% of the drivers were totally satisfied with the standard of information they worked from.

The major problem areas were: • Lack of information on exact location of delivery points and details of access.

O Incomplete information leading to overloading.

O Poor addressing of goods. El Insufficient time given for overloading.

0 Warehouse staff poorly briefed and in many cases ignorant of pending collection or delivery. 0 Illegible multi-carbon copies of notes, causing confusion and delay.

0 Poor road network and physical infrastructure restricting the number of drops planned in the allotted time.

The drivers also said they would like to know the importance of stated collection and delivery times, the details of loading facilities and a collection or delivery contact name.

Following the results of this survey, Overdrive is producing a check card for its drivers.

Freight Transport Association planning and information director Richard Turner commented on the survey: "Action by the consignor and consignee to provide basic courtesy details of collection/ delivery arrangements, coupled with the development of lorry driver maps will go a long way to ensure that transport retains its reputation for flexibility and efficiency."
