FI'VE motorways proposed by the 1 Minister of Transport are referred to in the recently published 20-year development plan of West Riding County Council. The roads will connect the Riding with other large population centres. The first runs from east to west, connecting Liverpool with Hull, and the second -connects with it just south of Leeds, running west of Wakefield and Barnsley and out of the county
between Sheffield and Rotherham, through the Midlands to London.
The third highway is a long-distance north-south by-pass of the Doncaster area, The fourth passes through the West Riding's south-eastern tip near Thorpe Salvin, whilst the fifth skirts the extreme north-west boundary.
