BASED on a Seddon Mark 5L chassis, a special body for the bulk delivery of animal foods has been built for Spillers, Ltd., by the Yorkshire Engineering and Welding to. (Bradford), Ltd. The vehicle consists of a tipping body divided into fore and aft compartments with a conveyor at the rear feeding material through a Simon rotary airlock into the conveying pipeline.
The compressor supplying air for conveying is carried on the vehicle and driven through shafting and V-ropes from a power take-off. A system of hydraulic pumps and motors is employed to drive the conveyor and the rotary airlock at the rear of the vehicle.
All the controls, including the tipping control, are centralized on the off side of the vehicle behind the driver's cab. The top of the body is enclosed, apart from a filling hatch which is protected by a waterproof canvas cover. Catwalks and an access ladder are provided.
The division of the body into two compartments enables the load to be divided so that two different products can be taken to one destination, or alternatively the same or different products can be taken to different destinations.
Once the rear compartment has been discharged, the tipping body is lowered and a hinged flap in the lower part of the division plate is released so that the material from the fore compartment can be unloaded.
The vehicle can if necessary be used for carrying bagged goods. For this purpose two loading doors, hinged out wards, are provided in the near side of the fore compartment and the top sections of the division arc arranged to fold back against the inside of the body: if required, the flap can be removed.
