rAPABLE of carrying an aggregate ‘•-• load of 360 lambs, an E.R.E. eightwheeler and trailer outfit delivered by Carmichael and Sons (Worcester), Ltd., The Butts, Worcester, to Mr. D. A. Miles, Bawdrip, Bridgwater, Somerset, features light-alloy container bodywork, that of the prime mover having three tiers and that of the trailer two.
The operator will use the outfit to carry livestock for the south-western area of the Fatstock Marketing Corporation and other customers.
The E.R.F. has an aluminium platform
25 ft. long with a 3-ft. 6-in, high head"board. The container has a canopy extension at the front, and at the rear there is a spring-loaded ramp with folding gates. The first deck is renmvable and may be stowed immediately below the second, so that it may be possible to carry sheep on the upper deck and larger animals below.
It is possible to divide the deck spaces by means of detachable partition gates. Calf doors are provided for each deck, and a ladder is stowed beneath the body for use when animals need to he loaded through the higher apertures.
The container mounted on the trailer is 7 ft. 6 in. wide whereas that of the tractor is 8 ft. The smaller unit also features a spring-loaded ramp at the rear.
Unladen weight of the E.R.F. is 6 tons 19 cwt. and with container 9 tons 16 cwt. The trailer weighs 2 tons 5 cwt. unladen and 3 tons 7 cwt. with container.
