EVIDENCE that the bus-fare situation in this country has a paiallel in Australia is contained in the report of the New South Wales Superintendent of Motor Vehicles for the year ended June 30, 1952.
He states that fares increases on many services were approved during the year. Most rates went up by Id. and the minimum rate on most services was now 4d. Most concession charges were, however, retained.
It had been represented by operators that increases in fares were not the solution of higher running costs, be., cause patronage tended to decline, Consequently, permission was given for numbers of little-used facilities to' be discontinued.
