COMMERCIAL-VEHICLE operators apparently appreciate premier fuels more than they did before the war, for the sales of this grade are over 13 per
cent, of the total sold to them. The figure before the war was only 7 per cent. '
Among all users, sales of the higher quality have risen steadily to nearly 61 per cent. in April. Before the war they were 52 per cent.
These figures were given by Mr. A. L. King, of Shell-Mex and B.P., Ltd., in a paper read before the Institute of Petroleum last Friday. Mr. King added that the effect of heavy taxation on liquid fuel had greatly stimulated the use of oil engines. The higher cost of such engines would have had a stronger effect in retarding development had not the tax been such an important element in the price of motor fuel.
Bradford Corporation have been testing premier and commercial grades of petrol in a refuse collector for two months. Cost per mile and mileage per gallon have been recorded, but the cleansing committee have decided to continue the use of commercial petrol in the department's vehicles.
