BUS PASSENGERS will noi be put at risk by any cuts ir public expenditure, Depart. ment of Transport permaneni secretary Sir Peter Baldwit assured MPs last week.

Sir Peter was givim evidence on transport impli cations of the Government' Public Expenditure Whit, Paper to 1983/84. Transpor expenditure will drop fron £2910m in 1980/81 to £2690 ii 1983/84, while DTP's shar will drop from £2368m t, £2220m.
He came under close critic ism from several MPs who fel the figures, as presented, wer insufficient.
