L'INES totalling £230 were imposed at
North Shields on Tyne Furniture Works, Ltd., North Shields, on charges of permitting its drivers to work excessive hours and failing to preserve records., During the hearing, it was alleged that the company's drivers had been instructed to keep two records, one for official requirements and another showing actual hours worked.
Leonard Fletcher, the company's transport manager, was fined £2 10s. on each of 31 summonses alleging alteration of entries in records. Six drivers were fined £2 each for. working excessive hours.
For the company, Mr. T. H. Campbell Wardlaw said the offences were part of the " teething troubles" of a big undertaking, but the situation had now been put in order.

AFTER a long debate last week, Edinburgh Town Council decided to abandon the city's tram system within the next three years, or as soon after as possible, and to introduce motorbuses. Some members considered that the decision was hasty.
