THROUGH holding a "best kept I vehicle" competition . each year, Manchester Cleansing Department save thottsands of pounds, Aid. James Fitzsimons, Lord Mayor, said last week. He was presenting prizes to four drivers in the departinent who had tied for first place with the maximum 400 marks. Aid. Fitzsimmons said the competition ensured a high standard of vehicle maintenance.
The award, worth E10 to the annual winner, is based on quarterly inspections for. which individual prizes of £5 may be won. Some drivers who have been consistently successful in the competition have won more th'an £100.
