rose 1.7% between 2003 and 2004 to 8.2bn vehiclekilometres (bvk): light vans led the way with growth of 5.1%. In its report Road Traffic in Great Britain 2004, the Department for Transport reveals overall goods vehicle traffic jumped 3.1% during the period.
In 2004, trucks travelled 29.4bvk, compared with 28.5bvk a year earlier. Light vans covered 60,8bvk, compared with 57.9 bvk in 2003. Car traffic rose by 1.3% during the same period, to 398bvk.
