DECISION is expected today on an application by the Mansfield District Traction Co., Ltd., for revised fares designed to increase revenue by approximately £19,400 a year. The proposals are that id. be added to single fares between 2d. and 61(1.

At the hearing by the East Midland Licensing Authority on Monday, Mr. W. R. Hargrave, for the applicants, said that costs had increased by £19,755 since last July, although £2,020 could now be deducted through decreases in the cost of tyres and fuel.

The Authority, Mr. A. G. Curtis, said that Blackwell Council had objected that the increase in operating costs did not justify the application and that the proposed fares were inequitable. Mansfield Woodhouse Council objected on the ground that the company had a monopoly in their area and higher fares would affect those who could least afford them.

Darlington Corporation are to add id. to all except the lid, fare. Transfer tickets are to be withdrawn. The general purposes committee are to institute an inquiry as soon as possible into the working of the transport department.
