A PARCELS delivery company has started a weekly shipping service to the Isle of Man, geared to the needs of palletised goods hauliers.
Manx Parcels, an associate of Bury-based DPC, has chartered a conventional lift-on/lift-off vessel to launch a weekly service from Glasson Dock, south of Lancaster to Ramsey, on the Isle of Man. A twice-weekly service is planned from the summer.
The company says its service is offered for around half the price of roll-on/roll-off ferry crossings, partly because it uses non-union labour at both ports.
Rates range from £20 per ton for consignments of over 10 tons delivered to Glasson, and delivered onward on the Isle, to £30 per ton for up to five tons and collected by DPC in Lancashire.
Goods delivered by 5pm on Fridays will be delivered on the Isle by Monday of the following week.
Details are available from Manx Parcels at Unit 2, Head Road, Douglas, Isle of Man (tel: 0624 20561).
