AN ON-BOARD load indicator designed for rigid vehicles and known as Co-Pilot was on display at the Geneva Show last week.
It is marketed in UK by VibroMeter of Newby Road/Hazel Grove, Stockport, Cheshire.
The system, which is designed for rigid vehicles such as tipper, refuse and sewage collections, uses load sensors located between the chassis and the body. It has a design weighing accuracy of plus or minus one per cent.
The standard instrumentation kit comprises three or four load cell measuring pins, a microprocessor-based central processing unit and a display panel that switches on with the ignition key and turns off when the handbrake is released, so as not to distract the driver.
At the heart of the Co-Pilot system, the CPU 101 central processing unit, which is mounted on the chassis, evaluates not only the signals from the load cells. It also compensates for load limits, the distribution of the weight of the empty vehicle between front and rear axles, the wheel base and the distance of the load sensors from the axles.
Access to the CPU 101 is only necessary for zero adjustment or recalibration.
