NEW INTERIM coach parking arrangements are being introduced in the Kings Cross area of London when the National Car Parks Midland Road coach park closes at the end of February.
The Greater London Council is co-operating with the London Borough of Camden in proposing to introduce some on-street coach and lorry parking meters in Midland Road and Goodsway as soon as it can overcome some local objections.
The meters will be available 24 hours a day for a stay of up to 15 hours. The minimum charge will be 50p for up to two-and-a-half hours.
The GLC is reminding operators and drivers that the coach stop at 57 Pancras Road is strictly for picking up and setting down passengers and not for parking.
In the period between the meter provision and the existing coach park closure the nearest coach park is at London Zoo, although this is only open between 10am and dusk. Other coach parks are available south of the Thames.
In the longer term the GLC plans to develop a coach park at Camley Street, just north of Kings Cross and there is also a slight possibility that part of the British Library site in Midland Road could again be made available for coach parking.
