HEAVY OPPOSITION has led Pontypridd independent Clayton Jones Coach Tours to drop applications for authority to run four circular stage services in the town. competing with the Taff Ely Borough Council.
Last April the firm's bid to operate services into Pontypridd was turned down apart from a minibus service three days a week on market days after a major traffic court battle. (CM April 23, 1983).
A subsequent application to extend the operation of the minibus service, which was also heavily opposed, was turned down by the South Wales Traffic Commissioners in October. (CM October 15, 1983).
Clayton Jones' latest propo sals were opposed by Taff Ely, National Welsh, IsIwyn Borough Council and Mid Glamorgan County Council.
The basis of the objection was that the proposed operation was against the public interest as it would damage the existing network; the County Council said that the proposed services were not in line with its plans.
A fifth service to cater for hospital traffic was granted by the Commissioners.
