AT West London Police 'Court, oh FridaY' last, a coach Operator was summoned for:failing-to comply with the Conditions of his road service
licence. The offenee, was admitted. „
Mr. L. Er, Barker, for the Traffic CommissionerS, said the defendant was authorized to tun coach excursions to, among other places, Sandown Park racecourse. On April 23 last, one of his coaches was . seen in Hammeismith Bridge Road, which was off his prescribed route, and as it passed a queue of people waiting for coaches, a man, who acted as conductor, shouted, "Anyone for iSandown Park? " The coach, of which the defendant was the driver, slowed down and three persons left the queueand boarded the coach. . The mattei was reported by a London Transport-inspector, and when the defendant was written to, he replied that he was obliged to slow down on account of heavy traffic, and that the people boarded the coach as he passed
the queue. '
For the defence it was said that the defendant departed from his usual route because of traffic congestion. There was no conductor on the coach,. but one of the passengers stood at the door and called out. The man was not authorized to do so andtook it entirely upon himself. , . It was stated that the operator had
a fine record, no complaint having been made against. him before, .
The magistrate said, that in view oF the defendant's good record, be would deal with the case as a first offence, and dismiss, the .summons under the Probation,, Act on payment of 10 guineas costs..
DIESEL-ELECTRIC TROLLEYBUSES FOR DUNDEE. DIESEL-ELECTE IC trolleybuscs, as a means for relieving traffic con gestion in Dundee, was suggested by Mr. James -Hamilton, at Dundee, last week. Mr. Hamilton said that trolleybuses were inure easily handled in heavy traffic than trams. Routes, too, could be extended at will with far greater facility than was the case with track vehicles.
PRESTON REVERTS TO PRE-WAR FARES.
THE present Id. and lAd. stages on Preston's bus services are to be discontinued and reversion made to the pre-war stages on the basis of Id. for the first two stages and an additional .1zd, toreach succeeding stage. This was decided at a town council meeting, when a proposal to increase the minimum workmen's fare. to 10, was defeated.

EMPIRE EXHIBITION INCREASES REVENUE
ASIIBCOMMITTEE ot Glasgow ransport Department had under consideration the proposal of the general manager to build 1.25 semi high-speed trains at a cost of £2500 each, arid to reconstruct 500 trams at a cost of £1,500 each, the total expenditure involved being £..1,612,500. It was agreed to authorize the building of 25 modern trams, and to ask for a. report on the other vehicles.
When a letter was read from the Duke of Montrose, asking the committee to experiment with gas-driven buses, it was agreed to await the manager's report on the Highland bus now being experimented with in the city.
During the past four or five months traffic on the Glasgow transport system reached new high levels, the increases being largely due to extra traffic in connection with the Empire Exhibition. From June 1 to October 15, the number of' passengers using the tramwa.y, bus and underground services wa.<-; larger by 26,209,050 than the total carried in the corresponding period last year. On the buses, there was nil increase of 10,236.51S; passengers and .£85,770 in revenue,
The transport department has withdrawn the bus services from Port Dundas and from Bridgeton Cross, to the Empire Exhibition, which closed on October 29,
