L' LEVEN Leyland Comet passenger
chassis have been shipped to Ceylon by Ashok' Leyland, Ltd., and they will be equipped with bodies made in the Ceylon Transport Board's own workshops.
Approximately 450 Leyland buses are now being operated by this undertaking, which was formed by Leyland only three years ago.
The Crown Agents for Overseas Governments and Administrations have ordered three heavy-duty outfits. One is a Leyland Hippo with Dyson 25-ton semi-trailer, for use by Nairobi County Council, Kenya, and the others are Beaver-Dyson combinations. One of these is for the Ministry of Works and Transport, lbadan, Nigeria, this being a 125 b.h.p. unit with 12-ton semi-trailer, and the other outfit has a 150 b.h.p. engine and 12-15-ton semi-trailer. This is for the Cameroons Development Corporation.
Ashok Leyland, Ltd., are to supply a further 25 Leyland Comets to the site of the Nagarjunasagar dam on the River Krishna, which will bring the total number of Comets working on this project to over 100.
