A HYDRAULICALLY opera ted I-% Bedford-Eagle three-stage tower wagon is to be displayed by Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., at the Aberdeen conference of the Association of Public Lighting Engineers from September 15-18.
Based on the 3-ton long-wheelbase chassis, the wagon gives easy access to the rear of the tower and the separate workshop body that is mounted behind the cab. Increased forward visibility is provided by a restyled front end.
Mounted directly above the rear axle. the tower is of hardwood framing, with steel diagonal bracings and wearing plates, The hydraulic system incorporates a strangulated return valve to pre
vent a collapse in case of hydraulic failure. Control, up to maximum height of 25 ft., is exercised from the cab. The platform, 7 ft. 8 in. by 3 ft. 3 in., rotates through 360° by means of a key operating through a chain and pinion.
Vauxhall will have a display also at the annual conference of the Chief Fire Officers' Association and the Institute of Fire Engineers at Brighton. They will show four vehicles—two B-type water tenders and a multi-purpose appliance, all with bodies by H.C,B. Engineering. Ltd., and a dual-purpose appliance, converted to forward control by Alfred Miles. Ltd. The conference is held from September 28 to October 3.
