THE blood-transfusion service of Sheffield Regional Hospital Board has been newly equipped with a doubledeck mobile unit, now on trial on a 600-800-mile tour through South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Rutland. If it proves satisfactory, another will be built.
The height of the vehicle is 11 ft, 3 in. and ii takes the place of three former units. It carries sterilizing equipment, rugs, blankets and a refrigerator which will hold 300 pints of blood. Ten donor attendants are carried and the unit can operate at any place, such as a village hall, that has a running water supply.
The vehicle was built to the specification of Mr. F. R. Gould, transport officer of the service, and the plans have been asked for by the Liverpool and Manchester Hospital Boards.
