THE British Road Federatior has accused the Governmeni of ducking awkward decisiont which must be made on th( roads programme.
BRF chairman Tony de Boei has hit out at the low level o: Government spending or highways, saying roar building is now running ai about half the level of fivE years ago. He claims that roar building is bearing more thar its fair share of expenditurE cuts, and the value of thE building has been further cu: by underspending the budgets Over the past three years says BRF the trunk roar budget has been underspen: by a total of £190m.
He calls the present plan. fling and public inquir, mechanism "cumbersome' and proposes a system tha: will reduce the unacceptablE delays that now hold back thE highway programme.
But, says Mr de Boer: "Al this will come to nothing ii there is no political will anc the Minister continues to duel awkward decisions."
