Douth Shields driver David Boyle won the National Lorry Driver of the Year finals earlier this month but far from earning brownie points from his employer, Safeway, he has been made redundant.
Despite 10 years with the supermarket giant, super-driver David faced the axe along with 28 other drivers at a depot in Felling. He refused redeployment with a pay cut to a depot in Stockton—hardly surprising since David beat 350 other drivers to win the coveted national title at his eighth attempt.
A sad waste of talent, methinks.
