A PETITION signed by 112 people t-i against the use of a site in Oldham for the erection of a transport garage was presented last week at an inquiry in Oldham. Mr. G. Mills, inspector for the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, heard an appeal by William Smith (1-101linwood), Ltd., against the refusal of Oldham Plans Committee, to sanction the building of a garage near Know] Square.
It was stated for the company that when, in June, they had the opportunity to buy land there they were told by the borough surveyor's office that there would be no snags about the building of a garage. This was denied by Mr. N, Nichol, corporation building inspector.
The council's objection was on the ground that the site was not zoned for industrial purposes.
