Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• MAN is preparing a record number of 8x8, 6x6 and 4x4 trucks for the 1987 Paris-Dakar rally, which starts on January 1 at the Palace of Versailles.

The Munich-based manufacturer says that none of its 12 trucks taking part in the 21-day, 12,000km event has been specially designed for the rally but that all are derived from its standard all-wheel-drive military vehicles.

All 12 MANs in the rally will be acting as support vehicles to other organisations, including the Thierry Sabine Organisation, which organises the event; Austin/Range Rover of France; Lada/Jacky lckx and Toyota.

The 1987 Paris-Dakar rally will be the ninth event of its kind. It was founded by Frenchman Thierry Sabine who was killed in a helicopter crash during last year's rally. Around 600 competitors will take part, driving trucks, cars and motorcycles through France, Algeria, Niger, Mali, Mauritania and Senegal.
