THERE was a difference of opinion at I a meeting, last week-end, between officials of the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Workers and Members of Parliament for Birmingham and Coventry regarding purchase tax on motor vehicles. The M.P.s refused to press for a reduction in the tax and a resolution calling upon the Government to lower it to prevent further redundancy in the industry was passed by only four votes.
