N'plans have been made for replacing the Widncs-Runcorn transporter bridge. A recent meeting of the joint bridge committee approved plans for a single-span suspension bridge to link the two towns.
If the scheme is approved by the Ministry of Transport, the bridge will take three years to build at a cost of £1.3m. It will be 80 ft. above the level of the Manchester Ship Canal with a 24-ft.-wide carriageway, which, if neeessary,,could be increased to 4St ft.
