• When giving his decision to an application by R. H. Stevens Ltd., of Macclesfield (CM January 23) the North Western deputy LA Mr. A. H. Jolliffe, said that the applicant company had shown flagrant disregard of its 13 licence conditions.
Mr. Jolliffe was addressing Stevens' representative, Mr. J. A. Backhouse, in Manchester recently. The deputy LA said that he would have refused the application outright had it not been for the need for transport shown by Manchester Liners Ltd.
Mr. Jolliffe granted four of the seven vehicles sought by Stevens on a new A licence. The other three vehicles would remain on B licence. The B licence variation to delete four trailers and add four trailers, incorporating in the new conditions "skeletal", was granted. The other variation to add to the conditions on that B licence, "goods in containers within 170 miles of base", was refused.
