• A BNIC Mastiff, converted by Henry Boys and Son Ltd., Pleck Road, Walsall, Staffs, to a three-axle vehicle, is plated at 22 tons g.v.w. and equipped with a 26ft platform body built by the operator; it can carry a payload of 15 tons. The 9-ton third axle is of the trailing type, having a Boys suspension and the rocker beam assembly has a ratio of '7 to 5. Westinghouse spring brakes are fitted to the axle.
The original wheelbase of the vehicle of 207in, has been extended to give an outer-axle spread of 259in., reinforcement of the chassis being provided by sleeves in the main members. Supplied in its original chassis form by Oliver Rix (Commercial Vehicles) Ltd., Liverpool, the vehicle is being operated by -J. P. and W. Strongfellow, a subsidiary of the Rennie Hogg Company, the shipping and forwarding agents. The recommended retail price of the Boys conversion is £820 inclusive of 10.00-20 tyre equipment.
Boys Developments Ltd. is a newly formed company that will take over the manufacture of a range of comPonents for Henry Boys to ensure availability ex-stock of replacement parts for the Boys third-axle suspension.
