A CONVOY of three Russian vehicles is touring the UK as a mobile training school for users of Soviet farm tractors. The classroom itself is housed in a semi-trailer van hauled by a MAZ-504 B tractive unit. This is a version of Russia's most widely used trunking vehicle powered by a V-6 diesel engine of kW (265bhp) at 2100 rpm. The gcw is 26 tons.
A GAZ-66 four-wheel-drive vehicle carrying additional demonstration equipment is powered by a V-8 petrol engine of kW (130bhp). Soviet instructors travel with the convoy in an 11-passenger minibus, model RAF 977, based on Volga car components and mechanical parts.
