SOON after the introduction of the Ford Cargo range, Longwell Green Coachworks, of Bristol, was approached by County Garages, of Swindon, to produce a crew-cab conversion.
Using solely Cargo cab components, the crew cab, fully trimmed and equipped with a nearside rear door, adds 15cwt to the basic vehicle weight.
The increased seating capacity for 11 people meets the requirements of passenger transport where it is used for vehicle recovery.
Extra weight makes the cab difficult to lift manually and Longwell Green has fitted a two-stage Airmatic cab-lifting system mounted beneath a strengthened floor pan.
Priced at £2,600 unpainted, the conversion, which takes about eight weeks to complete, carries 12 months warranty by Longwell Green. Current production averages two a month.
