THE GIRLING Skidchek anti-lock braking system is now available fc coaches.
A Leyland Leopard operated by Wallace Arnold has been runnin for some 60,000km (37,300 miles) with the Skidchek GX fitted, wit satisfactory results.
Although the system has been available for two-axle rigids fc some time, this is the first time that Skidchek has been fitted to passenger vehicle.
Girling claims that the GX anti-lock system has an improved actio which has eliminated much of the jerk associated with earlier d( signs and as such is now more applicable to passenger carryin vehicles.
At a demonstration at Girling's test track, the Leyland stoppe from 40mph on a wet Bridport surface in about two vehicle length less with Skidchek than without.
The system also permitted a safe lane change on a wet surfac whereas without the Skidchek the vehicle ploughed straight on wii locked wheels from 30mph.
As an on-line option the Skidchek price is £330 per axle where( the retrofit price is £580 including installation.
