A HALF MILLION pound road improvement scheme for part o London's South Circular route has been scrapped by the Greate London Council, following strong objections from local residents.
Commenting on the decision to scrap the Clifford Avenue/Uppe Richmond Road scheme, transport committee vice-chairman Pau Moore said: "It was a scheme approved for consultation last yea under the previous administration at County Hall, and containel some pretty hair-raising ideas, including destruction of goo( property and taking 'juggernauts' within a few feet of houses ii Clifford Avenue.
"It seemed to me a damaging scheme with little benefit in terms o traffic relief for the South Circular route, yet a high price would hay( been paid in money and in the nightmare conditions it would hay( created had the plan gone ahead," he added.
