WHEN the new depot of Hanson Haulage (Leeds), Ltd., was opened last week, Major F. S. Eastwood, Yorkshire Licensing Authority, inaugurated the proceedings by arriving in charge of a loaded packhorse, followed by a horsedrawn delivery van. Major Eastwood recalled how, as a staff captain in the early twenties, he had the job of hiring horses from Hansons for the Territorial Army. The depot was described in last week's issue.
Mr. Robert Hanson spoke of his experiences in road transport in 1913, when he drove a solid-tyred steam wagon on long-distance haulage. Indirectly, it was this work which led to the association between Holdsworth and Hanson. Mr. Charles Holdsworth was amongst those present at the opening of the new depot.
Soon after the 1914-18 War, said Mr. Hanson, the company employed convertible vehicles which, by an hour's hard work, could be changed from lorries into charabancs. In this way they were able to carry on both forms of transport.
