• From next Friday (September 12) hauliers with a standard national operators' licence will he able to take unaccompanied trailers to or from British docks as part of an international journey that takes place in the UK.
Until now only international licence holders have been able to carry out these movements.
The change to the regulations, which are in line with the EEC view that an international licence is not required for the work, has been welcomed by the Road Haulage Association which has been pressing for the change.
Current international licence holders already carrying out unaccompanied trailer movements within the UK will not be affected by the new regulations.
