• Although living in Austria I am English and a regular reader of Commercial Motor. I wish to make a reference to the letter from Mr Vick titled 'Conned again' which appeared in the August 9 edition of CM.
I, like many others, welcome the extension of driving hours to be made available for both national and international work. This will mean that a delivery destination or homeward journey can be achieved more rapidly giving satisfaction to workers and management alike. The driver stands a better chance of getting home 'legally' making it more economical for the company. If used properly the extra time can only benefit a hard pressed industry. After all people who require pay rises must realise that a company is not an endless money supply source. Surely it makes sense to everyone that increased productivity will mean more profit for a company eventually allowing for better negotiations for the employee.
We are not all idiots as Mr Vick would have it I am not a novice either, having been in this business for over ten years. In that time I have seen the industry deteriorate and feel that people like Mr Vick would do better by leaving it thereby making room for those of us who are willing to work.
