In his report for 1934-35, Warwick county surveyor says that 102,444 tons of material was hauled by hired piecework, at contract .rates, from the various railway stations and wharves, at a cost of £13,092, or an average of 2s. 6.6d. per ton, as compared with an average of 2s. 4.7d. per ton in the previous year. In addition, a large quantity of material was delivered direct on to the roads from quarries, etc., at prices including haulage.
The amount spent on daywork on contract rates was £27,529.
The council's two steam tractor and trailer outfits worked for 488t days during the year, at a cost of £1,447, or £2 19s. 2.7d. per day. The total quantity of material hauled was 20,987 tons. The daily average was 43.45 tons, at a cost of is. 4.36d. per ton.
These figures represent the working costs, no amount having been included for depreciation, interest on capital, etc. The average cost of operating the old steam wagons last year was 2s. Id. per ton.
The cost of working the council's 12 Morris-Commercial 30-cwt. lorries was 19s. 11d, each per day.
