upon between the two companies. to merge the West Riding Automobile Co., Ltd., Wakefield, and J. Bullock and Sons (1928), Ltd., Featherstone, the West Riding company has applied to the Yorkshire Licensing Authority for licences in place of those held by the Bullock concern, in respect of 76 stagecarriage services, 12 express-carriage services, and excursions and tours starting from six towns.

Mr. G. H. Margrave, managing director of the West Riding Automobile Co., Ltd., explained to a correspondent of "The Commercial Motor" that the projected merging of the two companies would aim to offset, by economies resulting from pooling of resources, theincreased costs now facing bus operators. Maintenance would be centralized, distribution of vehicles between depots would be ieorganized to avoid waste mileage, and certain services would be reviewed with the object of cutting out overlapping between the facilities at present provided by each company.

The combined fleets of the two undertakings will aggregate about 450 vehicles, including over 160 at present operated by the Bullock company. The area of combined operation will extend from the Wakefield district northward to Leeds, westward to Huddersfield and Bradford, southward to Doncaster and Sheffield, and eastward to Gook, Selby and York.
