REFUS1NG " maintenance" grant to Darbyshire (Transport), Ltd., Warrington, when they applied for a vehicle of 7+ tons unladen on B licence, the North Western Deputy Licensing Authority, Mr. J. R. Lindsay, at Liverpool,. on Tuesday,. said the usefulness of Regulation 15_ had not been fully pursued by the applicants. It was not used at all in 1956± but this year four applications had. been made and it had seived well.
Mr. -E. A. Whitehead, for the applicants, said that during the past 15 months so many of -their 15 vehicles had been off the road for maintenance or repair that 517 days had been lost. The vehicles were fully occupied and tuinover had increased from just over £58000 in 1955 to £62,634 in 1956_
Mr. J. Darbyshire said that although the company had used Regulation 15. when major repairs had been carried out, he thought two Or three days' substitution was unsatisfactory. Vehicles bought from British Road Services were in a bad condition.
