THE .10-per-cent. increase in rates and fares granted to the Ulster Transport Authority in .December, 1956, to meet additional costs arising from the Suez crisis, is to remain, together with a 5-per-cent, allowance to cover further rises in expenses.
This has been decided by the Ulster Transport Tribunal, whose chairman, Sir Anthony Babington, said last. week that it was. plain that the increases granted in December had been Swal lowed by . subsequent rises in expenditure. .
Mr. R. Carlisle, commercial officer. of the U.T.A., said that the 10-per-cent. increase should reduce the Authority's annual deficiency of £515,000 to £129,000. Wage rates had advanced by £175,000 a year and the Authority were now faced with a further demand which would cost 1200,000.
