AS from April 1. fees for vehicles authorized under A and B licences will have to be paid in one sum, instead of by instalments. The balance of fees still outstanding on A and B licences on that date will have to be paid in full when the next instalments would have fallen due. Proportionate refunds of fees will be made when a variation of an A or B licence reduces the number of authorized vehicles before the licence expires.
This is the principal change made by the Goods Vehicles (Licences and Prohibitions) Regulations, 1952, which come into force on April 1.
Other minor alterations include amendments to the application forms for A and B licences. requiring applicants to state the addresses of their proposed operating centres and to A28
specify the type of each vehicle concerned. A B-licensee will be required to return both the licence and vehicle identity certificate to the Licensing Authority for amendment when the conditions of the licence are to be varied.
The period during which notice has to be given of death, incapacity, bankruptcy or liquidation entailing the transfer of a business to another person, if that person wishes to become the holder of the licence, has been extended from 14 days to a month.
The new regulations, which can be obtained from the Stationery Office at Is., consolidate the original regulations of 1936, subsequent amending regulations, and the Goods Vehicles (Duration of Carriers' Licences) Provisional Regulations, 1938.
